Astrology is one of the six sciences in the parts of Veda. The other five sciences are Siksha, Kalpa, Vyakarana, Nirukta and Chandass. Astrology has wide acceptance around the world today. This science has three skandas (Parts) named Ganitha, Samhita and Hora. There are six divisions in these three parts which are Jataka, Prasna, Muhurta, Nimitha, Gola and Ganitha. It is believed that the prime authors of Astrology are God Brahma and other great saints. The other sages and scholars like Narada, Vasishta, Vyasa, Agastya, Athri, Parasara, Varahamihira, Viswamitra and Kalidasa enriched this branch of science. It is said that Lord Siva had advised this science to Nandi and Lord Muruka had advised this to Agastya.
It is believed that if the scholars in this science have the blessing of their beloved Gods they can predict the results. If the time of birth is wrong or if the calculation errors are occurring, the result may be wrong, but it cannot be said that this science is fake. Astrology helps the persons and nations to take the necessary precautions. It suggests the solutions for the misfortunes.
All persons should have knowledge in Astrology. At least some universities in India are providing facilities to do research works in this branch of science. Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi Sanskrit University, Madras Manuscript library and Thiruvananthapuram Sanskrit University have taken initiative to encourage this science and to arrange facilities to learn it. Astrology was formed based on Astronomy. While Astronomy emphasizes on ‘Ganitha’ (calculation), Astrology emphasizes on ‘Phala’ (the result).
Sri K Sasikumar (Dheeranandanathan), the founding master of Sriyog Sadhanapatham is a Srividyopasaka (worshipper of Srividya). His predictions based on Astrology have given peace for many people visiting Sadhanapatham. There are many incidents that many people could find out their own paths by these predictions. He had the vision of Sreechakra during his childhood itself and thus he sought more knowledge about Srividyopasana and started his journey in search of a Guru. He received his ‘Sambhavideeksha’ from Amritanandanatha (Dr. N Prahladasasthri), the founding master of Sreechakrameru Temple at Anakappally in Andhra Pradesh. According to his instruction, he went and met Ganganandanatha at Pinarayi, Kannur. Still, he continues his Srividyopasana with the blessing of that Guru. As per the instruction of his Guru, Sasikumar started the system of Muthappan in his ancestral home. Sri Sasikumar becomes capable to make predictions through the rites observed by offering ‘Payamkutty’ at Muthappan Madappura after his daily routine of Srividyopasana. Many people from all over Kerala come to Onattu Sri Muthappan Madappura to find out a way to get rid of their burdens.
The Muthappan seeks the liberation of the refugees, wrecks and orphans who stand embarrassed in front of life and He is a truth beyond the caste, religion or class. Even though He is the incarnation of God, Muthappan is an ocean of compassion, exists to obliterate the sorrows of the poor. By the blessings of the Masters, Onattu Sri Muthappan Madappura has the specialty that it is the one and only Madappura where ‘Payamkutty’ is offered daily, in South Kerala.
